Waxing at Hive - FAQ’s
-
For the best waxing results, you should have at least 4 weeks growth from your last wax, or 3 weeks growth from your last shave. You don’t need to worry about it being too long as it will be trimmed by your waxer if necessary. Waxing before 3-4 weeks will result in some smaller hairs being left behind, so I know it’s hard to live with the regrowth but please be patient and you will benefit from a smoother wax that will last longer.
-
No worries, you can still get waxed if you really need to, we can still remove a lot of the hair from as little as 2 weeks (on some people with fast hair growth even sooner) the only downside to waxing sooner than 4 weeks is that you may still have some little hairs left behind that are too short to remove, but that’s still better than going to your event hairy!
-
You get the best results with waxing after a few sessions so if you count back from your event every 4 weeks this will give you the schedule that will give you the best results. Doing your waxing this way will mean you’ll be smooth for 2-3 weeks as opposed to just 1 week after your first session. Just make sure you have at least 3 weeks growth for your first appointment. If your still not sure just contact us and we will work out the best timings for you.
-
If you have been shaving, or waxing irregularly you may notice regrowth in the first week or two. After 4-5 waxing sessions spaced 4 weeks apart your results will dramatically improve and you should have minimal regrowth in the first 2-3 weeks, with a noticeable increase in regrowth in the fourth week. Many regular clients say it feels like all the hair grows back in the final week and they’re then ready to be waxed again.

We’ve seen it all before, and you’re probably one of a dozen people that day! As soon as you’re on the bed you’ll be absolutely fine and forget about everything, we’ll make sure of it. We love what we do and it’s really just another day at the office. Whether it’s an eyebrow wax or bikini wax it really doesn't make any difference to us, we just want you to the get the best results possible! We’ll take the time to explain everything that will happen at the start of your appointment and ensure you always feel at ease. The anticipation is always the worst part, the waxing is never as bad as you think.

Honestly, not really! There will always be some slight discomfort with waxing, but this really only lasts for a few seconds (I promise!). To help minimise any discomfort we use the best wax on the market combined with a protective oil that is placed onto the skin before every waxing treatment. This means the wax only sticks to hair and not to the skin making waxing far less painful and less traumatic on the skin than traditional strip waxing. As well as using the best wax we also use the best techniques. Our waxing style makes waxing quicker easier and as pain free as possible.
-
Yes there are several things you can do. Avoid caffeine for a few hours before your waxing appointment, caffeine will make your pain receptors more sensitive. Avoid waxing 3 days before and after your time of the month, most ladies will already know your body will be more sensitive to everything during this week and waxing is no exception.
-
Traditional waxing involves placing a very thin layer of wax on the skin and removing with a paper or cloth strip, this wax is perfect for less sensitive areas of the body such as legs, back, chest and arms. Hot wax is far kinder to skin and so is better suited to underarms, face, and all intimate waxing. A layer of oil is first placed on the skin, and the wax is applied in a slightly thick layer and let to set. The wax shrink wraps itself around the hair as it cools and when the wax is fully set it is removed taking only unwanted hair away leaving the skin far less irritated than with traditional waxing. While hot wax is available for all areas of the body if required please note it will be double the price of a leg, back, chest and arm wax and is generally less effective at grabbing very fine hairs.

It's possible. Waxing removes the entire hair, root and all, from the follicle. Your skin naturally hardens and thickens over the area that was waxed so it is important to keep that area gently exfoliated. Use a gentle scrub in that area about 2 days after waxing and continue to exfoliate 2 to 3 times a week thereafter very gently!
-
For the next 24-48 hours AVOID on the waxed areas:
• use of exfoliating products (Alpha-Hydroxy Acid (AHA) products, loofahs, scrubs, etc.)
• direct sun exposure and tanning beds
• creams with fragrance or ingredients that may irritate
• deodorant: it results in irritation and clogging of open follicles
• wearing tight clothing: results in irritation and inflammation
• excessive heat, such as that from hot tubs and saunas. Luke warm showers are okay
• exercise, if it may cause chaffing or sweating
After 24-48 hours, start regular exfoliating and moisturising, which will help keep skin soft and prevent ingrown hairs.
-
Absolutely not. Waxing does not cause you to grow more hair follicles or cause the hair to grow back thicker. In fact, if you become a regular waxer, you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse and not as coarse The only things known to stimulate hair growth are hormones: natural or artificial.
-
Yes, you can absolutely get waxed, if you let your therapist know when booking she will advise you on what to expect. We recommend that you wax throughout the entire pregnancy to avoid discomfort. Keeping up a regular waxing schedule throughout your pregnancy will make your waxing far easier in the last trimester, which is when it can be the most sensitive due to the increase in hormones and blood flow to the area. You can also wax right up to your due date. It’s totally safe and it doesn’t bring on labour! That's an old wives tale. If it worked i’m sure we’d have a long line of pregnant women outside each morning who are just ready to have their baby!! Aftercare products that contain BHA’s are not recommended for use while pregnant so you will need to use a regular exfoliator and moisturiser.

You will be unsuitable for waxing if you are using any of the following medications:
• strong AHA’s or BHA’s in skincare products or medication
• Any medication than thins your blood such as Asprin
• Any Steroid medication in the last 3 months: topical or oral
You will be unsuitable for waxing if you have any of the following medical conditions:
• Any infectious skin disorder such as impetigo, warts, cold sores, lice, ring worm or any other contagious skin infections
• Diabetes – Please bring a letter from you doctor that waxing is ok for you or I will have to refuse treatment due to the increased risk of infection due to slower healing, and greater possibility of burning due to lack of sensation.
• Recent scar tissue – If you have had an operation in the last 6 months please note that it will not be possible to wax over the area. I will be able to wax around it so please contact me if you have any questions.
• Sun Burn or use of a sunbed in the last 24 hours – sun burn is skin damage and to wax over it will cause your skin to lift, and will result in a burn like mark left on the skin
